Founded in 1979 by parents
who wanted independent, neighborhood living opportunities for their
adult children with developmental disabilities, Community Living
has grown from its initial two houses to 25 single-family, townhouse,
and apartment homes located throughout the City of Frederick. The
agency now provides full residential experiences and services for
over 100 adults of all ages, all levels of disability, and all employment
capabilities. In doing so, Community Living employs a staff of 90
+ people.
Every Community Living
resident either works a traditional job, attends a local day program
or sheltered workshop, or is a participant in the agency's senior
day program. The agency also provides respite care, emergency placement,
and technology assistance services to local families.
The Community Living
mission statement reads, "To provide full inclusion into the
Frederick County community through residential housing and programs
for our citizens with developmental disabilities," for over
28 years, that has been the sole thrust of this agency's commitment.
We are privileged to
serve over 100 people at any given time, and each is a full vested
member of the Community Living family. Some joined the agency directly
from institutions more than 20 years ago, while for others, Community
Living is their first grown-up home away from their parents.
